I just got my copy and noticed that there is no list of the way the letters are pronounced. I found some YouTube videos that helped. That poor girl whose name is Mild-thridth!
I wouldn’t really think it was much of a controversy in choosing holt over wudu (or Weald).
They all have modern equivalents, at least if one uses Myriam Webster (Oxford differs a bit).. They have meanings as old English: Weald (Forest), holt (copse), and woods is obvious.

And you're right... there's probably good reason it ended up changing to Mildred...
